Tegan and Sara concert sold out; Winehouse, Springsteen, West early Grammy favorites; Best of Music 2007 coming soon
by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

Tegan and Sara + Northern State = sold out at The Showbox

If you were thinking about getting tickets for the Tegan and Sara concert on December 3, stop thinking. The show is totally sold out. No mas tickets. To my knowledge, it's the first time Tegan and Sara have completely sold out a venue this far in advance. The Canadian duo, who opened for The Killers two years ago, have steadily gained a following in the US behind critically-lauded releases like So Jealous (2004) and If It Was You (2003). Their new release The Con just came out this summer. Speaking of coming out, Tegan and Sara are both Lesbian. And, they're sisters. They've also interviewed with Seattle Gay News twice. Supporting Tegan and Sara on the pair's fall-winter tour is Northern State, an all-female rock trio with a bouncy, punk-pop sound. They're like an edgier version of The Go-Gos. Visit www.northernstate.net for audio clips and more information on this kick-ass threesome. If you still want "in" to The Showbox concert, try Craigslist. Otherwise, you'll have to catch Tegan and Sara the next time around. Sad, but true.

Winehouse, Springsteen, West emerge as Grammy frontrunners

Rehab is a place that treats people with serious problems. It's also the name of a heavy favorite vying for Record of the Year when the Grammy nominations are announced in early December. With the eligibility period already closed, as of September 30, frontrunners and serious contenders are emerging for music's biggest prize.

Amy Winehouse's single "Rehab" could earn nods in the general field and will likely be included in the Best Female Pop Performance category. Most certain is Winehouse's nomination for Best New Artist. It'd be a complete shock if she were omitted from the list. Other Best New Artist contenders are Sean Kingston, Taylor Swift, Daughtry, Colbie Caillat, Robin Thicke, Klaxons, and Mika. Record of the Year hopefuls include Winehouse's "Rehab", Beyonce's "Irreplaceable", Rihanna and Jay-Z's "Umbrella", Kanye West's "Stronger", Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats", Bruce Springsteen's "Radio Nowhere" and Fergie's "Glamorous". Album of the Year favorites are Winehouse's Back to Black, West's Graduation, Springsteen's Magic, Paul McCartney's Memory Almost Full, The White Stripes' Icky Thump and Arcade Fire's Neon Bible.

I'll bring loads of Grammy buzz to you in the coming weeks right here in "The Music Lounge", including a look at the top contenders right before the nominations are announced in December.

Seattle Gay News picks Best of Music 2007 on December 14

We look forward to it every year, and we can't wait to tell you what's on our lists this time. It's our Best of Music 2007 issue. We'll choose the year's best CDs, singles and concerts, and we'll even save room to mention a few disappointments that nearly gave us earaches. Plus, we'll rundown a list of the hottest artists of the past twelve months. In previous years, Seattle Gay News has included Franz Ferdinand, The White Stripes, Beck, Silversun Pickups, Kelis, Death Cab for Cutie, Madonna, Scissor Sisters, We Are Scientists, Brendan Benson, Neko Case, LCD Soundsystem, and Kanye West, to name a few, on its "best of" lists. Currently, we're going through stacks of CDs and downloading music online, and attending a bunch of shows, in preparation for our year-end music issue on December 14. If there's anything you think we should strongly consider, let us know.
