It is with great sorrow SGN announces that on Friday morning. Aug. 24th, the Rev. Gwen Hall died at Swedish Hospital
My close friends and community folks. It is with great sorrow SGN announces that on Friday morning. Aug. 24th, the Rev. Gwen Hall died at Swedish Hospital .

Gwen had had some severe health issues for the past year. During the last several weeks of medical siege, her body just had nothing left to fight with, kidneys and heart lagging. Organ failure would be the term. Swedish is a first class hospital and did all they could. I spent time at her bedside early am prior to her death and felt assured by her doctors that it was going to be a peaceful passing.

Gwen was medicated and had been tended by family and friends during the past week.. I was very close to Gwen and loved her deeply. I always thought she would preside at my funeral since she is 20 year younger than I. Alas, it was not to be.

The range of her good works over the past 25 years is simply amazing. She staffed an early community center. She helped organize an influential caucus of Black Lesbians. She worked on the Freedom Day Committee (Pride March) for years and was the chair as well. She and I co-chaired the regional organizing for the Marches on Washington in 1989 and 1992 with great success and tens of thousands of participants from the Northwest four state region.

Gwen was a strong advocate of Bi and Trans inclusion once she had processed the issue squarely. The list of good works is very long and continues on to include her good efforts of getting a degree in religion at Seattle University and founding a church. And that list also includes years of work and ministry for people with AIDS, and much, much more.

At this point I have no details on services, but her close family, including her son and Trina will keep us advised.

Most assuredly Gwen is in the arms of the Angels. George Bakan, publisher/senior editor
