Out Gay actors Harris and Knight receive Emmy acting nominations
Out Gay actors Harris and Knight receive Emmy acting nominations
by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A&E Writer

Neil Patrick Harris and T.R. Knight received their first Emmy Award nominations last week for their respective supporting roles in How I Met Your Mother and Grey's Anatomy. Both primetime actors came out publicly in the past year.

Emmy nominees are selected by the industry-peer organization ATAS (Academy of Television Arts and Sciences), and the nods for Harris and Knight translate to huge support for each of them, especially when you consider the dozens of actors who were also in the running.

Harris will compete against a pair of strong contenders from the highly acclaimed show Entourage, Kevin Dillon and last year's winner Jeremy Piven, plus Jon Cryer of Two and a Half Men and Seattle native Rainn Wilson of The Office. Knight goes up against previous Emmy winners William Shatner of Boston Legal and Michael Imperioli of The Sopranos, two cast members of Lost, Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson, and newcomer Masi Oka of Heroes.

Other Gay familiars nominated include Ellen Degeneres for her hosting duties at this year's Oscars and Sir Ian McKellen for his guest acting work on Extras.

The Emmy Awards will be presented on September 16. Look for picks and predictions in major categories here in the Seattle Gay News on September 14.
