33rd Seattle International Film Festival
May 24th-June 17th
Various venues
Well, after watching a few of the trailers for upcoming films in this year's Seattle International Film Festival at the press launch on May 10th, I'm sure of at least one film I have to see. The one about the 'killer sheep'. I'm not making this up, really, and I'm imagining that this one will definitely be a late nighter, probably a midnight film. Looks funny and as disturbing as one I saw years ago ('Night Of The Lepus') about 'killer rabbits'. And I can say it looks like another scientific experiment gone wrong, and is called 'Of The Lambs', set in a rural English village. Top of my list for sure.
There are over four hundred films in this year's festival, and one by the guys who brought you 'Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy' (one of my faves!), called 'Son Of Rambow'.
Gotta see that one too! This will actually be the opening night film, with festivities at Marion Oliver McCaw Hall this year. And yes, the filmmakers will be in attendance at the screening.
Along with these tasty treats, more aerial derring do from China a la 'Flying Tiger/Crouching Dragon' are going to be offered as well as some really delightful offerings from Spain, France and a new comedy by Lars Von Trier (who will always be my favorite director for bringing me the 'Kingdom Hospital' films). Also more documentaries, and lots and lots of actors, directors and other noteworthy types will be in town for panels and galas. Oh, and did I mention the Neil Gaimanesque sci-fi thriller 'Nightwatch' (which looks so deliciously spooky, it's a must see for me too!), which'll probably be another midnighter? Well, you've been warned.
