James Michael Liebertz
James Michael Liebertz
James Michael Liebertz, "Jim," passed away suddenly and peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, April 17. He was 45 years old.

Jim was born to Jerry and Penny Liebertz on December 7, 1961 in Portland, Oregon. He was the youngest of 8 children and therefore earned the reputation of being teased by some and spoiled by others.

Jim graduated from the Madeleine School in 1976 and from Central Catholic High School in 1980 where he was class president. He earned his Bachelors Degree in Marketing from Portland State University in 1985.

Jim began his Marketing career working at McDonald's, later moving into the banking world. After many years with First Interstate Bank in Portland, Jim moved to Seattle where Washington Mutual was his next undertaking, rising to executive vice president of their Marketing Department. At this time he met Dr. Felix Marcial. Jim left the corporate world and established his own employment and diversity consulting firm, named Liebertz and Associates.

After 5 years together, Jim and Felix celebrated their commitment ceremony with a gathering of many family and friends. During the following years, they enjoyed extensive traveling, casino visits, shopping, working on his family's genealogy, and many, many visits to his parents home in Tigard. Jim also was an accomplished amateur digital photographer. As his friends and family know, Jim's favorite "handle" was a martini - dry and dirty. Among his collections were watches, individual martini glasses, vintage wine, and a liquor cabinet second to none.

Jim is preceded in death by his mother, Penny. He is survived by his father, Jerry Liebertz, Sr.; partner, Dr. Felix Marcial; Jim's children, Gyasi and Mitchell; sisters: Lori (David) Thom and Connie (Dennis) Wolters; brothers: Jerry, Willie (Mary), Danny (Doreen), Phillip, and John. Countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and his companion, Richard Jones, also survive him.
