Justin Timberlake announces Tacoma Dome show; Klaxons is new 'it' band; Angelique Kidjo interview coming; Modest Mouse tops albums chart for first time
Timberlake bringing 'sexy back' to Tacoma Dome, tickets on sale March 31
I've blocked off the entire second weekend of September, declaring it a Gay holiday. If you're a fan of pop superstar Justin Timberlake, I encourage you to do the same. You, me and thousands of screaming Timberlake faithful will watch the multi-Grammy winner strut his stuff on a stage positioned in the center of the Tacoma Dome. The unique "in-the-round" performance was announced earlier this week, as part of Timberlake's extended itinerary for his very successful "Futuresex/Lovesounds" tour. The concert is scheduled for Saturday, September 8. But for such a Gay occasion, I recommend making a weekend of it by booking hair, spa, and shopping appointments on Friday - to stand out in a big crowd. Sunday, of course, is a twenty-four hour recovery period. Timberlake's previous visit to the Seattle area was in 2003, when he also performed at the Tacoma Dome with touring partner Christina Aguilera. Tickets for September's concert, priced between $54 and $151, go on sale tomorrow, March 31, at noon. Seattle Gay News will bring you coverage of Justin Timberlake's highly anticipated appearance. Stay glued for updates and full concert review in the coming months. Let the drooling begin!

Klaxons, coolest new UK import and headed to Seattle next month
Not since Franz Ferdinand and Arctic Monkeys have I been so giddy about a rock band from overseas. This time around, I'm losing sleep (literally) over a new group called Klaxons. I went to bed late after repeat listens of their stateside debut, Myths of the Near Future, and then played it immediately when I woke up the next morning. The rave-punk trio, based out of London, is comprised of vocalist-keyboardist James Righton, bassist Jamie Reynolds, and drummer Simon Taylor. Their sound is an audio potpourri of fussy guitars, whirring keyboards, danceable beats, and totally fun lyrics. The threesome's CD has instantly become my at-home workout companion. If you're hitting the treadmill soon, grab a copy of their disc. Klaxons are currently on a European tour, where they'll perform twelve already sold out shows. Seattleites will have the opportunity to see Klaxons in-person when they pound The Crocodile Café on April 23. I am so damn excited about this concert! I'm actually re-soling my favorite pair of Pumas because I plan to do plenty of bouncing. Word on the street is that Klaxons will be phoning into Seattle Gay News, from the road, in the coming weeks. In the meantime, check them out on MySpace and YouTube.

Grammy-nominated Kidjo talks about AIDS crisis in upcoming interview
A few years ago, I had the pleasure of seeing African-born artist Angelique Kidjo perform at the intimate Dimitriou's Jazz Alley. That show still makes me smile because it was such a colorful, inspiring performance. Kidjo, who recently wrapped up a series of tour dates with Gay-adored Josh Groban, danced around the Jazz Alley and delivered one of the best concerts I've been to here in Seattle. During her show, Kidjo spoke passionately about the AIDS crisis, both in her native continent and throughout the world. I was touched, and I think anyone who's lost a friend or colleague or loved one to this disease would have been too. That aside, Kidjo was dazzling on stage. She sizzled from the moment her feet touched the platform to the second she waved her final goodbye. So here's the good news - Angelique Kidjo is returning to Dimitriou's Jazz Alley for a three-night stand, May 4-6. Introducing audiences to music from her new release, Djin Djin, the Grammy-nominated vocalist will give one performance each night during her Seattle stay. Call the Jazz Alley at (206) 441-9729 for reservations. And, be on the lookout for an interview with Kidjo here in "The Music Lounge" in late April.

Modest Mouse celebrates #1 album with 129,000 copies sold in first week
Yet, more Modest Mouse news. The Northwest-bred rock band scored a career-first this week, topping the Billboard albums chart after selling 129,000 copies of its newest effort We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. I realize this is Modest Mouse overkill, in terms of the coverage we've given them the past few weeks, but it's not everyday a homegrown artist receives the honor of having the #1 album in the entire country. Congrats to Modest Mouse!
