SGN A&E Writer Premonition Directed by Mennan Yapo Starring Sandra Bullock, Julian McMahon, Nia Long, Megan Hanson, Courtney Taylor-Burness Now playing Sometimes I think there's this incestuous relationship going on between the boob tube and the big screen, or at least in the minds of some producers, and directors. The thought must go, if he or she's a big star on the telly, audiences will flock to see him/her on the big screen. Well, I'm here to clear up that rumor or thought right now. Julian McMahon, (who played the demon lover of one of the 'Charmed' ones on the little screen, is the star of the popular 'Nip/Tuck' series), isn't any big shakes on the big screen. In fact, you ask me, he could have phoned his role in. And starring with Sandra Bullock ('Infamous'), doesn't do anything to add to his appeal. The two star in a film that one could compare to a much better film ('Déjà vu'), only this one comes off like so many 'movie of the week' rehashes. And, I guess that's the good points about 'Premonition', which is supposed to be a thriller, but has so many mind numbing plot twists that after a while you might feel like snoozing. True, the premise is a good one. Young wife (Bullock), gets the message that her husband (McMahon), has been in a terrible accident and was killed instantly. Only she keeps waking up to different days, a la Groundhog Day, but more twisted and much darker, where he's still alive and everything is different. So she decides to 'chart' it all, and try to keep track of when what change happens and try to prevent the eventual, inevitable death. Follow? Well, if just that little explanation sounds complicated, watching Premonition isn't going to make you feel any more enlightened, or give you any reason to want to invest what seems like a very long time in what turns out to be a pretty pointless film. My advice, save your dough and go see almost anything else. |
