Seattle Gay Softball seeks new players
Seattle Gay Softball seeks new players
New Player Skills Clinic set for Saturday, February 17

The Open Division of the Emerald City Softball Association (ECSA) is gearing up for its 2007 season - and it's looking for new players.

The first of two New Player Skills Clinics is set for Saturday, February 17, noon to 2 p.m., at the Rainier Beach Playfields in South Seattle. Rainier Beach Playfields is located on Rainier Ave. S. at the corner of Cloverdale St.

More than 30 teams are expected for the 2007 season - and there are plenty of teams looking for players of all skill levels. Teams are formed based by experience and skill level of the players, allowing recreational teams to play against other recreational teams.

The New Player Skills Clinic is chance to hit, field, and catch a few softballs and meet teams that are looking for new players. Bringing a softball mitt is great idea, but extra equipment will be available to borrow.

The league runs from April through July and is open to everybody: men, women, Gay and non-Gay. Much of the growth in the league over the past several years has been at the beginner or recreational level - and the league expects that trend to continue as more and more people learn about the league and the recent announcement that Seattle will host the 2008 Gay Softball World Series.

Gay softball is a great way to meet new people and enjoy spending time outdoors in an organized activity. Many of the new participants are relatively new to the game, without much experience in the game.

The upper divisions of the league are great for experienced jocks too. This year, the ECSA Open Division hopes to double the number of teams at this level compared to the 2005 season. These upper division teams are also open to both Gay and straight players, which can be a great way to play on the same team as friends.
