BEST SINGLES/TRACKS (In Order)
1. Well Thought Out Twinkles - Silversun Pickups
Brian Aubert's vocals are so melt-in-your-ears astounding that Billy Corgan is probably rolling his eyes somewhere knowing there's a guy that sounds very similar to him, yet better.
2. Hold On, Hold On - Neko Case
Neko Case's smash indie-country single finds her taking Valium from a bride and loving the devil, complete with an unforgettable western twang and Case dolled up in her retro cowgirl boots.
3. Analyse - Thom Yorke
Supposedly, this song from Radiohead chief Thom Yorke details the mysterious murder of a UK clergyman who questioned the premise of the Iraq war. Regardless, it's a chilling piece.
4. My Love - Justin Timberlake featuring T.I.
Pop cutie Justin Timberlake got everybody moving on the dance floor with this slick number that featured some freaky-cool synths, jammin' beats, and T.I. hanging out poolside.
5. Woman - Wolfmother
There are great rock songs. And there are rock classics. This cut, from Australian threesome Wolfmother, belongs in the latter category. A kick-ass, hard rocking tune deservedly nominated for a Grammy.
6. Not Ready to Make Nice - Dixie Chicks
The Dixie Chicks responded not nicely to rednecks, George W ass kissers, and hillbilly radio stations with this bold, brilliantly written single, the smartest "eat shit" song of the year.
7. The Great Escape - We Are Scientists
This track, from We Are Scientists' booming debut CD, is guaranteed to turn bystanders into head bobbers at your next house party. The music video showing the trio shirtless in the shower together is just as tempting.
8. Ooh La La - Goldfrapp
Goldfrapp hit one out of the ballpark in 2006 with this club-throbbing number, heard on national TV commercials and pouring out from Gay owned iPODs everywhere.
9. Be Without You - Mary J. Blige
In business since 1992, Mary J. Blige has produced a string of terrific R & B singles. But this is her finest, a beautiful Grammy-nominated ballad with the diva wailing at song's end.
10. God Knows (You Gotta Give to Get) - El Perro Del Mar
Swedish newcomer El Perro Del Mar sounds mesmerizing on this floating-on-clouds single, found on her stellar self-titled album.
(11-25, in random order): The Funeral - Band of Horses, Lazy Eye - Silversun Pickups, Sexy Back - Justin Timberlake & Timbaland, King Without a Crown - Matisyahu, Save Room - John Legend, Destroy Everything You Touch - Ladytron, Crazy - Gnarls Barkley, I Will Follow You Into the Dark - Death Cab for Cutie, Ain't No Other Man - Christina Aguilera, Dimension - Wolfmother, Inaction - We Are Scientists, When You Were Young - The Killers, Every Mile a Memory - Dierks Bentley, Steady, As She Goes - The Raconteurs, Closer - Joshua Radin
