Pacific Gender Institute Announces Plans for Holiday Party December 2 at Polish Home
SEATTLE Pacific Gender Institute announces they will sponsor a holiday party set for Saturday evening, December 2. The organizing committee has named this festivity "The 2006 PGS Yule Renewal Party."

Fran Stewart, chair of the PGI/PGS organizing committee, explains, "(The event) will provide an opportunity for folks of all ages, whatever their connections to the Pacific Northwest gender community, to gather and celebrate." Plans are being finalized for a fun-filled evening. The Yule Renewal Party runs from 6 pm until 11 pm at the Polish Home building located at 1714 18th Avenue in Seattle's Capitol Hill Neighborhood. The venue is easily found by turning north on Madison Street onto 18th Avenue. Parking is plentiful at the facility.

According to Ms. Stewart, entertainment will be provided by DJ Penny. Penny has spinned music for many events over the years, including the Esprit programs held annually in Port Angeles. In addition, Ms. Stewart announced that there will be classical guitar music by Nina. A buffet will be provided by Chef Erica Ward. Chef Ward has been creating marvelous meals for the Trans community for many years. As in years past, cash bar will be available, capably tended by Debra Darling. There will also be an auction led by long-time auctioneer Suzanne Adams.

Tickets to the event are $25 per person if purchased in advance or $30 at the door. To get tickets call 206-323-2162, email PGSinfo@pacificgender.org, or mail your request with a $25 check to PGI, 1812 E. Madison St. #204, Seattle, Washington 98122.

Suzanne Adams, a long-time leader in the transgender community, offered some background to highlight the importance of supporting this event. "There has been a gender support group in Seattle since the late '60s. Seattle Counciling Service (SCS) provided our first meeting facilities. A long line of people and institutions (such as Ingersoll) nurtured this resource of peer support and helped to make our Pacific Northwest one of the most transgender-friendly places in the world.

Due to changes in the organization during the first half of 2006, the Pacific Gender Institute (PGI) decided it was important to form the Pacific Gender Support Group (PGS) to continue the simple drop-in format that began at SCS in the early '70s. This sort of meeting is an important first step for many individuals with gender identity issues. From those meeting (hosted at PGS every Thursday night), people often add or move on to other transgender groups."

PGS also continues a longstanding, slightly more formal Friday night program that was very successful at Ingersoll Gender Center, as well as Saturday night social groups. For significant others, friends or anyone else affected by someone else's transition, they provide a monthly meeting on the fourth Tuesday of every month. All of these meetings are held in their Seattle offices at 1812 Madison Street #207.

Bryant Vehrs, president of PGI, explains "Pacific Gender Institute is a Washington non-profit corporation founded in 2000 and granted 501 (c3) status by the IRS. Pacific Gender Support is the main program we financially maintain. Aside from the donations of those who attend PGS meetings, we're funded through generous pledges from individuals and matching funds from employers. We very much appreciate gifts from the community, which are tax-deductible, by the way! Attending our winter festival is a great way to help financially while having a fun evening."
