Former UN Weapons Inspector Scott Ritter visits Seattle
Former UN Weapons Inspector Scott Ritter visits Seattle
by E. Joyce Glasgow - SGN A&E Writer

Former U.N. Weapons Inspector Scott Ritter, who disputed President Bush's claim of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, appeared at a Seattle City Club luncheon on November 9th. He was in town to discuss his new book: "Target Iran: The Truth about the White House's Plans for Regime Change". Ritter, who was a top inspector in Iraq from 1991-1998, was formerly an officer in the Marines and a ballistic missiles advisor to General Schwarzkopf during the first Gulf War.

Ritter said that he thinks that President Bush will still try to invade and attempt a "regime change" in Iran, within his last two years in office -- despite the mid-term election, which changed control in the Senate and House of Representatives to the Democrats. He said that he recently visited Iran and had complete freedom of movement, even to top secret military facilities. Ritter said that as far as he could see, there is no Iranian nuclear weapons program and no threat to sustain the fearful rhetoric of President Bush.

Ritter said that he used to buy into the U. S. view of domination of religious fanaticism in Iran. When he arrived in Iran, however, he changed his mind, finding that the capital, Tehran, was as modern and "Western" a city as Seattle. Everyone has complete internet access, text messaging and cell phones and "can see the whole world". He was welcomed warmly by the Iranian people and called them; "fantastic, cultured, intelligent and pro-American". Even the Islamic Mullahs thanked him for coming.

He said that they don't have anything going on in Iran to warrant "another dead American" and that we must be careful not to make the same mistakes that we have made in our relationship with Iraq.

Scott Ritter's other books include: "Iraq Confidential", "Endgame" and "Frontier Justice".
