DIFFA's GLAM event shines Event raises funds for HIV/AIDS services and education programs
DIFFA's GLAM event shines Event raises funds for HIV/AIDS services and education programs
by David Luc Nguyen (Teriyaki Temple) - SGN A&E Writer

The Seattle chapter of DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fights AIDS) presented "GLAM - A Celebration of High-Style Design" at Masins in Pioneer Square last Thursday. Producers ensured the event lived up to its name (GLAM) by making guests feel like celebrities with a red carpet arrival area and photographers from Team Photogenic snapping pictures in a paparazzi style manor.

After stepping off the red carpet into Mason's lavish furnishings attendees were able to bid on custom-made designer boxes filled with luxury products, home decor items, and other glam goodies for the silent auction. "For the GLAM event we came up with the box theme after we had settled on the event tag-line 'think outside the box' said John Stevens DIFFA Chapter President. Combined with money raised from the boxes, sponsors and a raffle the event was able to raise over 30,000 for DIFFA.

As if the boxes weren't enough to gaze upon, attendees were treated to models dawning fabulous spring fashions from Barney's New York, dazzling jewels from Cartier, and a pair of beautiful shirtless twin bucks dubbed the "Viva Glam Boys." DIFFA really went all out to make sure everyone had a great time.

If you missed out on GLAM, don't fret! DIFFA-Seattle has two more extravagant events planned for the year including "Party at the Mansion" - which is a vintage, retro-chic Playboy Mansion theme Gala tentatively scheduled for September 16th and their grants distribution/awards ceremony on World AIDS Day (December 1st) at the W Seattle. DIFFA has had a long tradition of fabulous events while fighting AIDS.

DIFFA began in 1984 in New York as a grass-roots effort within the textiles and furnishings industries- raising funds for friends and co-workers tragically afflicted by a new and terrible illness. Over the years, DIFFA has grown into a national organization with chapters in 12 cities, attracting support from the fields of fashion, furnishings, architecture, and interior design. Since its founding, DIFFA has mobilized the immense resources of the design communities to provide over $35 million to hundreds of AIDS organizations nationwide. The Seattle chapter was formed in 1993 and has granted nearly $400,000 to local HIV/AIDS service and education programs.

DIFFA is an incredible group of people who have shown that people can work hard, do good, and be glamorous all at once. A long time supporter of the organization summed up the event best by saying "Great people. Great party. Great cause." Congratulations on a fabulous and successful party.
