Sacred Activism Conference comes to Lynnwood
Sacred Activism Conference comes to Lynnwood
Our future's at stake!

by Rev. Barbara Allen, CMP - SGN A&E Writer

All of us should be concerned with what the religious right and neoconservatives have done to our family, community, nation.

I believe that we can come together as a new community, with an inclusive spirituality, to protect our rights, our planet, and build a new, better, future.

The Sacred Activism Conference is a world-class, timely event, bringing attendees and presenters from throughout the nation, Northwest and Seattle area together to take a stand for progressive values and galvanize a deeper connection between spiritual practice and social action.

The dozens of speakers are dazzling, and include, to name a handful: Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.; Betsy Chasse, Producer, Director and Screenwriter: "What the Bleep do we Know"; Andrew Harvey; Caroline Myss; John Bastyr faculty members; Cindy Sheehan; and Marianne Williamson.

Williamson is an internationally acclaimed author and lecturer, founded Project Angel Food, a meals-on-wheels program that serves homebound people with AIDS in the Los Angeles area. Today, Project Angel Food serves over 1,000 people daily.

A new cultural movement is emerging in America far larger and beyond the ideas of the religious right, left, or partisan politics.

Survival and the fate of our planet are at stake. At the core of this conference will be discussions about the new political compass emerging in America, how each of us can contribute to shifting the direction of our country toward values aligned with a heightened sense of civic responsibility, that protect the earth, and that would bring our country into a new relationship with the community of nations. Conference presenters and workshops outline the direction in which America could go, if we organize ourselves and provide leadership.

If we want to see changes respecting us as individuals and as a community, we need to work on making this happen by being part of larger changes.

Complete information about the conference, which runs from May 11-14, is available online at:

The 24 page full color event brochure and program, along with registration information is included:

Of particular interest is the Thursday all day workshop: "Sacred Activist as Mystic, Warrior & Healer", with world famous authors and spiritual leaders Caroline Myss and Andrew Harvey, from 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Myss will speak about: "The Sacred Activist", at 8:45 p.m., followed at 9:15 by Andrew Harvey: "The Mystic Teachings of All Ages".

Andrew Harvey's film: "Sacred Activism" will be presented during the noon break on Friday; his book: "The Essential Gay Mystics" is a must read. (More about this book and Harvey in a separate article.)

On Mother's Day, May 15th, an all day workshop by Jean Houston: "The Divine Feminine as the Gateway to the Wisdom Civilization", from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. with a one hour lunch break.

If you've seen one of the 24 page glossy brochure/programs, ignore the registration fee schedule because a major sponsor has made possible a dramatic reduction in fees.
