Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community celebrates health resource

SEATTLE, WA - Gay City Health Project and Verbena will host Grand Opening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of new Center for LGBT Health at 511 E. Pike on Friday, April 21st, 2006 from 6-9pm.

"We're so excited to welcome the community into their new home for health and wellness services," states Fred Swanson, Executive Director of Gay City Health Project. "This is an historic moment for the LGBT communities in Washington State."

The evening will include appearances by local political leaders, including Rep. Ed Murray and Seattle City Council Member Sally Clark. Gay City Executive Director Fred Swanson, along with the Verbena and Gay City Boards of Directors, will also help welcome the new Verbena Executive Director Michelle "Mo" Malkin and introduce her to the community.

Kaladi Brothers Coffee, which hosts a coffee shop in the new center, will be providing free drip coffee during the grand opening party. Desserts will be provided, as well.

Services provided at the Center for LGBT Health will include:

o Free, Anonymous HIV and STD testing

o Free cancer screenings

o Transgender health resource groups

o Tobacco cessation groups

o Cancer support groups

o Wellness community forums

o Comprehensive referral to LGBT-competent health care providers and community health clinics

o Access to other LGBT health and wellness resources

o General health education and support

o Health care provider access to LGBT cultural competency resources
