Steve Frederick
September 28, 1950-April 29, 2005
Steve Frederick passed away rather suddenly at Swedish Hospital in Seattle from complications of lung cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends and believed he was in Gods hands. He was comforted by his strongly held spiritual beliefs and the surety of life ever after.
Our friend Steve grew up in Tacoma, Texas and North Carolina - although he spent most of his life in Seattle on Capitol Hill. Steve was around during the early days of Chicken Soup Brigade and Seattle AIDS Support Group (now Dunshee House), where he volunteered as a Friday Feast chef and on their annual Christmas tree lot for many years. An avid gardener, Steve loved growing things and often helped tend the grounds at Dunshee House and on his moms property on Treasure Island. Steve loved visiting his mom on the island, where he enjoyed digging clams, collecting rocks and shells, and playing in the waters of Puget Sound. The beautiful environment of the island inspired his artwork; Steve focused on using the bounty of nature to create art which honored our connections to land and sea. True to his generous nature, Steve usually gave his creations away to friends and family. An avid reader, he especially loved romance novels and the worlds of Star Trek. Steves love of words led to his reputation of being a humorous raconteur.
Steve was the heart of his family, and will be forever missed by family and friends. He leaves behind his mother Kutzer, sister Jennifer, brother-in-law John, brothers Michael and Gregory, sisters-in-law Rebecca and Wanda, and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Remembrance Service will be held at Dunshee House (303 17th Ave. East) on Saturday, May 14, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Dunshee House.
