Radical Women celebrates worker’s holiday with presentation of the situation in Central America
Radical Women celebrates worker’s holiday with presentation of the situation in Central America
by Rajkhet Dirzhud-Rashid - SGN A&E Writer

May 1 is considered a “high holy day” for Pagans - the day spring officially begins with the wrapping of the Maypole, symbolizing fertility and healthy sexuality. But the day is also a day that was marked in the last century to celebrate all people of the working class. On this day there will be a presentation at New Freeway Hall (5018 Rainier Ave. South, four blocks south of S. Alaska) featuring speakers who will be talking about the 2005 World Social Forum that was attended by over 100,000 activists who met to oppose the system of capitalism in the “third world.” The event took place earlier this year in Brazil.

Speaking at the event as part of a panel hosted by Latin American feminists will be Hugo Orellana, a native of Guatemala and an activist who participated in a series of events opposing Free Trade, and Guerry Hodderson of Radical Women. There will also be video clips and slides from Brazil and music from Latin America, as well as a delicious Brazilian supper at 4:30 p.m. The event starts at 2:00 p.m. Hey, take the bus and have an adventure to share with all of those other future Metro riders a new report says will be joining us regular riders pretty soon.
